The Calcutta High Court has stayed the West Bengal government’s decision to provide financial assistance to Group C and D employees who were recently removed from service due to recruitment irregularities. The order came from Justice Amrita Sinha, who stated that the allowance announced by the state was not legally permissible at this stage.
Justice Sinha said, “No such allowance can be given right now.” She observed that such a decision is outside the scope of the state government’s powers and cannot be implemented until the legal status of the dismissed employees is clarified. The court ordered the state government to halt any payment process related to the allowance.
The development comes shortly after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s announcement of financial aid for the terminated staff. The court’s order has now paused that move, and any future action will depend on the resolution of legal proceedings related to the job terminations.
